Senior discussants at the JURE pre-conference 2013

Dear EARLI SIG-Coordinators and JURE Assistant SIG-Coordinators,

As suggested by the EARLI Executive Board, we are trying to include not only peer discussants but also senior discussants (people who should at least have finished their Ph.D.) in the paper sessions during the JURE pre-conference in Munich next year.

We have already received quite a few e-mails from people who are going to support us and other young researchers as senior discussants during the conference. Therefore, we would like to thank everybody who is going to act as a discussant.

However, we are still searching for some more people to make sure that we can allocate one discussant to each session. We would therefore like to ask you to forward our invitation letter and the questionnaire to members of your SIGs who are planning to go to the EARLI conference and who might be interested in taking up the role of a discussant.

You can find all the relevant information about the responsibilities of a senior discussant in the invitation letter. We also added a short questionnaire to ask people about their main fields of interest and expertise in order to allocate them to the most suitable paper sessions.

Notifications SIG 11 conference June 13-15

Dear participants at the SIG11 conference in Bergen June 13-15.

As we now approach the conference week, I have some final notifications:

1. Due to important feedback from participants, we had to re-schedule a minor part of the programme. Please see the updated version here
2. The conference hotel has one available smoking-room (double room), the remaining rooms are non-smoking. If anyone is interested in the smoking-room, please contact me as soon as possible. First-come, first-served.
3. Please remember to bring good shoes to Bergen. High heels on the pavement in Bergen is not recommended.

Practical information upon arrival

Getting from Flesland airport to the registration venue

When arriving at Flesland, the easiest option is to use the Airport Express Coach which departs every 15 min. from the airport to the centre of town. The driver will announce Festplassen in the city centre.

From Festplassen you walk up the street about 200 m. (from A to B on the map), to Christies gate 12, also known as Bjørn Christiansens Hus.

Registration and baggage drop June 13

At Christies gate 12 (as mentioned above). Registration is open from 13:00-18:00. Here you will find members of the local committee who will take care of your luggage, and show you the direction to the first conference venue “Studentsenteret”.

NB! Christies gate 12 is also the meeting point for departure to Westland conference hotel Wednesday June 13. We recommend you to be there between 21:45-21:55 latest, as the bus departs 22:00.

Social activities

Guided tour June 13 (only for pre-registered participants)

The famous Norwegian author Gunnar Staalesen will take 40 pre-registered participants on a special tour guide in Bergen city. This is scheduled from 18:15 – 20:00.

Concert June 14

The Norwegian artist and composer Karoline Krüger is to be found in the “Land-of-in-between”. She has, first and foremost, since her debut nearly two decades ago, firmly established herself in the flora of Norwegian performing artists, as an exciting and gifted performer and composer. Her latest recording, “Veggen” – the soundtrack from the musical performance – received the NOPA (Guild of Norwegian Pop composers) Award for best compositary work 2011.

Reminder to register before May 20

We have some important reminders in connection to the SIG 11 conference “Research in Teaching and Teacher Education” June 13-15.1. Everyone who has been accepted to do a paper or poster presentation must register for the conference by using this link: https://reg.app.uib.no/SIG11. If you have not registered by May 20, your paper will be withdrawn from the conference.

2. If you plan to bring a friend or spouse to Bergen who will not attend at the seminar, please give us his/her full name and we will book a double room for you to share. Your accompanied should also contact the hotel at post@westlandhotel.no and give details about his/her stay and which meals (s)he will have. The hotel can give detailed information about the costs, and payment must be made directly to the hotel. However we will arrange transportation to and from Bergen city (using the same bus as the other participants – see schedule on our website https://sig2012.wordpress.com/).

3. We are looking for more volunteers as chairs for the paper sessions. Everyone, including junior researchers, is invited to be chair. If you wish to be a chair, please send us an e-mail at: jol089@webmail.uib.no.

4. There are still a few places left at the exclusive first-come first-served guide event Wednesday June 13. The famous Norwegian author Gunnar Staalesen will take 40 participants on a special tour guide in Bergen city. This is scheduled from 18:15. 5. We would also like to remind you that the hotel is not easily accessible by public transport, and we recommend all to make use of the inclusive collective transportation Wednesday night to the hotel and Friday afternoon to Bergen and the airport.

• Conference fee: NOK 3740 (~ 500 euro)
• Reduced conference fee for SIG11 members*: NOK 2990 (~ 400 euro)

What does the fee include?
The conference fee includes bus to and from hotel, hotel accommodation (single room **) for 13 – 15 June and full board 14 – 15 June.

Cancellation:
A 75% refund will be given if you cancel before May 18 2012. Any cancellations after this date will not be refunded.
